Discernment – A Novel

My first novel is now available for sale.  You can download it as an ebook from the Kindle Store here as well as a new paperback option with free shipping from Amazon Prime.  Just select the paperback option after you follow the Kindle link.  If you would like a signed paperback copy, send me a message via this site, facebook, or email and I can set that up.

The first six chapters are separate posts.  1  2  3  4  5  6

Here’s a description (in case you haven’t read one yet):
Lying in bed at the end of a long day, eyes closed and relaxed, and you hear the voice of a small child, hurriedly whisper, “It’s coming!”  Your eyes fly open and you survey the dark room because, the problem is, there shouldn’t be any small children in your bedroom.

Have you ever turned down a darkened hall and thought you saw someone at the end of it?  Ever been awakened by something, in the middle of the night, and felt the hair raise up on your arms but there was nothing there?  Would you be able to stay in bed if you felt someone crawl up, onto the end of your bed, and slowly begin to pull the blankets from your shoulders?

Johanna Parks knows these feelings all too well.  Ever since she was a child, she’s suffered from a disorder called night terrors.  Now just over 30, Jo struggles to hang on to ‘real’ life – her job, her relationship, her sanity- as the terror episodes become more and more vivid, and everything, from visitors in the night to accidental injuries, tries to drag her into the darkness.

I just went on Amazon and checked out the blurb. It hooked me in straight away even though I do not prefer dark novels. I think you should put the blurb on your blog too so that any visitor who wants to know more can see it right here and decide if they want to buy your book. Good luck. 🙂

Thanks, Ria, I’ll do that tomorrow! Any help I can get to get the word out there about my books is greatly appreciated.

I just went and read the first chapter and it was really good. Of course, a little more editing in the beginning would make the start a little less jarry, but midway through the chapter I really could feel my teeth sink into the story.

I would like to review your book for my blog or do an author interview because the concept is really interesting, or maybe both. Would you like that?

I appreciate your feedback! Since I hadn’t written it with the intent to publish it, I wasn’t paying too much attention so it wasn’t the best that I could do. Had I actually thought people were going to read it and want to buy it (and had I expected to actually finish the thing, let alone three more books), I would have started it completely differently. I could write a whole blog post on that so I’ll just stop there.

I would love to do an author interview. You should read through chapter 6, first, because it will give you a much better idea of what the story is actually about. I have a few other reviewers that are currently reading it but, when they’re finished, I can let you know if I need more.
